Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic, the player with the most Grand Slam titles, have been placed in different halves of the French Open men’s singles draw. Sinner, the current ATP Rankings No. 1, enters with a 29-match winning streak and will face French wild card Clement Tabur in his opening match. He aims to achieve a Career Grand Slam at Roland Garros.
Meanwhile, Djokovic, a three-time Roland Garros champion, will start his quest for a 25th major title against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. He may potentially encounter Joao Fonseca in the third round. Djokovic shares the draw half with second seed Alexander Zverev, who kicks off against Benjamin Bonzi.
In Zverev’s quarter, Arthur Fils, a local favorite, will begin against Stan Wawrinka, the 2015 Roland Garros winner in his final ATP Tour season. Another veteran, Gael Monfils, also in his farewell season, will face Hugo Gaston in his last Roland Garros appearance.
Young talents like Rafael Jodar, Martin Landaluce, and Moise Kouame have also discovered their draw positions. Jodar, with a 15-3 clay record this year, starts against Aleksandar Kovacevic and could meet Taylor Fritz in the third round. Landaluce faces a qualifier and might clash with Sinner in the third round. Additionally, 17-year-old wild card Moise Kouame meets Marin Cilic, the 2014 US Open champion, in his opener.
Casper Ruud, a two-time French Open finalist, could potentially face Djokovic in the fourth round. Ruud, who reached the Rome final recently and is currently competing in Geneva, is progressing to the quarterfinals.
