Fresh details have emerged in the investigation of the murder of 26-year-old Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal. Police sources allege that his fiancée, Siya Goyal, took almost Rs 1 crore from him under the guise of wedding preparations before transferring the money to her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary.
Goyal, aged 20, and Chaudhary, aged 22, are said to have meticulously planned Agarwal’s murder in advance. They were arrested for allegedly conspiring to kill Agarwal by pushing him off a cliff at Lohagad Fort on June 18. Investigators claim that Goyal had requested the money from Agarwal for wedding shopping but instead gave it to Chaudhary to support his career.
The alleged conspiracy involved a long-term strategy where Goyal agreed to stay unmarried for three years after Agarwal’s death to avoid suspicion. The plan was for Goyal to marry Chaudhary once he became financially stable and public attention waned. Police believe the delayed marriage was intended to make their relationship seem unrelated to the crime.
The investigation also revealed details of how the murder was carried out. Goyal and Chaudhary had a pre-arranged signal for the attack. Goyal’s action of sitting down was the signal for Chaudhary to push Agarwal off the cliff. This signal not only alerted Chaudhary but also ensured Goyal’s safety by keeping her at a distance from Agarwal.
Call Detail Records (CDRs) indicated that Goyal spoke to Chaudhary about 34 minutes before the incident, which police suspect was the final confirmation before the murder. The conspiracy was reportedly finalized by the end of May, with an earlier unsuccessful attempt on June 14. After a failed push, Chaudhary allegedly followed the couple to Lohagad Fort on June 18 to prevent Agarwal from escaping again.
The investigation also touched on a driver’s statement regarding a planned trip to Bali. The driver mentioned that Goyal seemed reluctant to travel and had a heated argument with her brother during the journey. The trip was canceled after Agarwal discovered his missing passport at Mumbai airport.
