A political controversy has arisen in Bihar concerning the government bungalow at 10 Circular Road in Patna. Former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, now the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council, has reportedly refused to vacate the residence despite a final notice from the state government. The Bihar government issued a directive for Rabri Devi to vacate the bungalow, but she has insisted on staying put, challenging the government to use security forces for eviction.
Amidst the ongoing situation, Patna Secretariat SDPO Anu Kumari, along with a police force, visited the residence and engaged in a conversation with Rabri Devi. This development has sparked strong reactions from leaders of the ruling Janata Dal (United) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary emphasized that all actions are being taken in accordance with established laws and regulations, stressing the importance of compliance with legal provisions and government rules, especially regarding official residences.
The controversy has led to a war of words between the ruling party and Rabri Devi. JD(U) Chief Spokesperson Neeraj Kumar criticized Rabri Devi, questioning her objections and highlighting that she has been allocated an alternative government residence with additional options available. Neeraj Kumar mentioned ongoing construction of a new residence in Mahuabagh and development of another accommodation in Kautilya Nagar, emphasizing that housing issues should not be politicized. He urged public representatives, particularly constitutional or opposition leaders, to adhere to administrative procedures.
The Building Construction Department has issued multiple notices on the matter, indicating that there should be no concerns regarding accommodation arrangements. Neeraj Kumar also made references to the family’s assets, suggesting that the opposition’s housing-related issues may not be genuine. The dispute over the iconic 10 Circular Road bungalow, historically linked to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, has become a focal point of political discussions in Bihar. While the government asserts that the matter is purely administrative, opposition leaders continue to question the motives behind the government’s actions.
As both sides stand firm on their positions, political analysts anticipate that the disagreement will persist, fueling further debate as the government and Rabri Devi determine their next steps.
