The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has imposed a penalty on Sopan Restaurant for selling sub-standard food in the pantry car of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express. This action follows a laboratory analysis that found a milk sample below the prescribed quality standards.

FSSAI, in a social media post on platform X, announced the adjudication order against Sopan Restaurant for the sale of sub-standard food on Pantry Car No. 15904 of the train. The penalty was a result of the analysis of a Nova Flavoured Double Toned Milk sample collected from the pantry car.

The State Public Health Laboratory in Assam conducted the testing of the milk sample, declaring it sub-standard under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006. Subsequently, the Designated Officer of the Northeast Frontier Railway at Maligaon forwarded the analysis report to the manufacturer and other relevant parties for necessary action.

The adjudicating officer at Alipurduar initiated adjudication proceedings under Section 68 of the FSS Act, 2006, based on the laboratory findings. Following the proceedings, a penalty was imposed on the authorised representative of Sopan Restaurant for selling sub-standard food, as confirmed by FSSAI. However, the exact amount of the penalty was not disclosed.

This recent enforcement action is part of FSSAI’s intensified efforts against violations by food business operators nationwide. Earlier this week, the regulator suspended the license of Rehaan Healthcare, a Punjab-based company, due to serious violations found during inspections at its manufacturing facility producing health supplements and nutraceuticals.
