A court in Ramgarh, Jharkhand, has sentenced gangster Aman Srivastava and his associate Lakhan Sao to life imprisonment for the murder of Kameshwar Pandey in 2015. The Additional District and Sessions Judge-I also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each convict. Both were found guilty of murder and criminal conspiracy on May 7.
The court handed down life imprisonment under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, along with a Rs 10,000 fine to each convict after considering sentencing arguments. Additionally, under Section 120B of the IPC, they were again sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000 each. They were also given seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a Rs 10,000 fine under Section 27 of the Arms Act. Failure to pay the fine would result in an extra year of rigorous imprisonment.
Security was heightened around the court premises during the verdict announcement. The case revolves around the murder of 70-year-old Pandey, who was shot dead in 2015 at a local vegetable market. Aman Srivastava was found to have conspired to commit the murder to assert dominance and instill fear in the area. Investigations revealed that the victim had no criminal connections.
The prosecution named Ganesh Singh alias Jayprakash Singh, Sao, and Srivastava as accused, but due to insufficient evidence and witnesses, Ganesh Singh was acquitted. The prosecution was handled by APP Shraddha Jaya Topno, while the defense was presented by advocates B.N. Tripathi and Mahendra Mahato.
