Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi is behind BJP opponent Hitendra Nath Goswami in the initial counting round for Assam’s Jorhat Assembly constituency. Goswami has garnered 4,993 votes, leading by 1,056 votes, while Gogoi received 3,937 votes in the first round.
Officials have completed only one out of the 14 rounds of counting, indicating that the margin may fluctuate as more rounds progress. The Jorhat seat is a significant battleground, with both parties closely monitoring the emerging trends.
In another constituency, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is in the lead in the Jalukbari Assembly seat, providing an early advantage to the ruling alliance as the counting process continues amidst stringent security measures.
The BJP-led NDA is ahead in 80 Assembly seats, while the Congress-led opposition alliance is leading in 26 constituencies during the initial counting stages of the Assembly elections.
