Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, recently organized a dinner for the entire squad at his home in anticipation of their upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match in New Delhi. This gathering was also attended by Rajiv Shukla, the Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is the second time Gambhir has hosted such an event during his tenure as head coach, with the previous one taking place during the Test series against the West Indies last October.
In a bid to foster team unity, Gambhir has been engaging in various team-building activities. Recently, he and several team members visited the renowned Siddhivinayak temple in Mumbai to seek blessings from Lord Ganesha. The Indian team had arrived in New Delhi earlier on the same day to prepare for their upcoming match against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
India, the defending champions, kicked off their T20 World Cup campaign with a hard-fought win against the United States at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Despite a shaky start that saw them at 77/6, skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliant unbeaten 84 guided India to a modest total of 161/9 in 20 overs. The team successfully defended this score, with pacer Mohd Siraj, a late replacement for Harshit Rana, impressing with figures of 3-29 within a day of joining the squad.
As India aims for their third T20 World Cup title, the pressure is mounting due to high expectations. The team faced setbacks before their opener, with all-rounder Harshit Rana’s injury forcing him out and Jasprit Bumrah opting to sit out due to illness. Despite these challenges, India managed to overcome a tough start in their first match against the USA, showcasing resilience and determination.
