US-based GE Aerospace announced a Rs 100 crore investment in its Pune manufacturing facility for infrastructure upgrades and advanced equipment. This investment aims to boost production capacity and enhance manufacturing precision with new welding technologies and inspection systems.
The total investment in the Pune facility over the past three years now exceeds Rs 510 crore, with Rs 410 crore committed in the last two years. The upgrades will benefit engine programs such as GE90, GEnx, GE9X, and CFM International’s LEAP engines.
GE Aerospace’s focus on skill development and strengthening India’s aerospace manufacturing ecosystem is evident through this investment. The Pune facility, which has trained over 5,000 production associates since 2015, is expected to create more apprenticeship and job opportunities.
The Pune plant, a crucial part of GE Aerospace’s global supply chain network, collaborates with over 300 local suppliers and is connected to a broader ecosystem of 2,200 suppliers in India. GE Aerospace engines power platforms used by the Indian Air Force and Navy, with over 1,400 commercial engines in Indian carriers’ aircraft.
