Grandmaster Vincent Keymer from Germany emerged victorious at the Super Chess Classic Romania of the Grand Chess Tour 2026 by defeating Jorden van Foreest in the final round in Bucharest. This win secured Keymer’s first tournament victory in a classical event on the 2026 Grand Chess Tour during his debut as a full tour player.
Keymer earned a total of $131,250 for his triumph, which included a share of the $125,000 Classical wins bonus distributed among players based on their total wins in the tournament. Michael Khodarkovsky, the Executive Director of the GCT, praised Keymer’s performance as a significant achievement for the next generation of elite players in the chess world.
In the competition, GM Fabiano Caruana finished second, while World Championship Challenger GM Javokhir Sindarov claimed third place with an impressive display. The event saw intense competition over nine rounds, with Alireza Firouzja withdrawing due to an ankle injury. The Super Foundation President, Augusta Dragic, commended Keymer’s exceptional performance and sportsmanship, along with all participants for their dedication to elite chess.
Vincent Keymer expressed his joy and gratitude for the support he received, calling the tournament victory the biggest of his career. The Grand Chess Tour will now move to Zagreb for the Super Rapid & Blitz Croatia event, scheduled from June 29 to July 6, 2026, featuring a prize fund of $200,000 and a mix of full-tour participants and wildcard entries.
