Trading activity in GIFT Nifty reached a new peak, showcasing the robust expansion of India’s equity derivatives market. The index achieved a record single-day trading volume of 457,989 contracts, amounting to a turnover of $23.48 billion or approximately Rs 2.13 lakh crore. This milestone surpassed the previous record set on January 23, 2024, indicating a surge in participation and global interest in India-linked derivatives traded at GIFT City.
Trading turnover on NSE International Exchange (NSE IX) has been on a sharp incline since the full-scale commencement of GIFT Nifty operations on July 3, 2023. With a cumulative trading volume exceeding 60.05 million contracts and a total turnover of $2.76 trillion, the contract has solidified its position as a significant benchmark reflecting the growth narrative of the Indian equity market.
Market observers attribute the consistent rise in volumes to the emergence of GIFT Nifty as a pivotal indicator of the Indian equity market’s progress. The exchange expressed contentment with this achievement and acknowledged investors and traders for their unwavering support in driving the contract’s success.
NSEIX, an International multi-assets exchange established at GIFT City on June 5, 2017, and regulated by the International Financial Services Centre Authority (IFSCA), commands a dominant market share of over 99.6%, underscoring its prominent position in GIFT IFSC. Offering a diverse product portfolio, including Indian Single Stock Derivatives, Index Derivatives, Currency Derivatives, Depository Receipts, and Global Stocks, NSEIX plays a crucial role in the financial landscape.
The exchange’s array of primary market products, such as Equity Shares, SPAC, REITs, InvITs, Depository Receipts, Debt Securities, and ESG Debt Securities, operate within the regulatory framework of IFSCA (Listing) Regulations, 2024. Notably, the international Nifty futures contract, GIFT Nifty, witnessed a record monthly turnover of $106.22 billion in October, surpassing the previous high set in May 2025, signaling sustained growth in the market.
