India’s women’s 4x100m relay team secured a gold medal and set a new meet record at the New Taipei City Athletics Open in Taiwan. The team, consisting of Srabani Nanda, S.S. Sneha, Sudeshna Shivankar, and Tamanna, clocked an impressive 44.07 seconds to claim the top spot, surpassing Vietnam by 0.31 seconds.
In addition to the relay victory, India excelled in field events with long jumper Shaili Singh clinching the gold in the women’s long jump competition. Shaili’s best effort of 6.24 meters outperformed her competitors, contributing another medal to India’s tally at the event.
On the track, Tejas Shirse from India secured a silver medal in the men’s 110m hurdles, showcasing a strong performance against tough competition. Shirse’s success adds to his achievements, having previously won gold in the national championships with a time of 13.50 seconds, improving his own record but narrowly missing a CWG berth.
India’s performance in the U20 Athletics Championships was also notable, with the women’s 4x100m relay team winning silver with a time of 45.05 seconds. The Indian men’s 4x400m relay team set a new meet record of 3:05.54 but finished third, comprising Piyush Raj, Sayed Sabeer, Ranjith Kumar S, and Mohammed Ashfaq.
