In the high-profile dowry death case of Twisha Sharma, Giribala Singh, her mother-in-law, refuted claims of disregarding three police notices and criticized being treated akin to a terrorist under UAPA. Retired judge Giribala Singh stated that her lawyer would address the allegations against her, emphasizing that the media portrayal was inaccurate.
She clarified that she had not received any police notice earlier and highlighted the lack of interest from the police in recording her statement or collecting CCTV footage. Giribala Singh explained that her phone calls post-incident were solely for offering condolences and expressed surprise at police officials entering her house in her absence.
Claiming to have received her first police notice via WhatsApp on Thursday, she mentioned her willingness to cooperate and her efforts to provide necessary documents. Giribala Singh defended her actions of contacting CCTV operators, stating her intent to ascertain the events within her residence through installed cameras.
She dismissed the credibility of videos and audio clips circulating on social media, alleging manipulation and urging for transparency by challenging others to submit their phones for scrutiny. Giribala Singh expressed readiness for a CBI inquiry into the case, raising concerns about the impartiality of the local police investigation.
