An eight-year-old girl tragically lost her life when a house wall collapsed in Yadgir district, Karnataka, due to heavy rains. The incident took place at Tumakuru village in Vadagera taluk, where the kitchen wall of a house owned by Siddappa crumbled after a bout of heavy rainfall. Yadgir Deputy Commissioner Harshal Bhoyar and Superintendent of Police Pruthwik Shankar visited the site following the incident.
The victim, identified as 8-year-old Akshata, was playing in the hall with other children when the kitchen wall collapsed on them amidst the heavy rains. Sadly, Akshata succumbed to her injuries on the spot, while two other children playing with her sustained injuries and were promptly taken to the Yadgir Institute of Medical Sciences (YIMS) for medical attention. The Vadagera police have initiated an investigation into the matter, with further details yet to be disclosed.
In a separate incident in Bengaluru, Karnataka, heavy rains led to the collapse of an 8-foot compound wall near Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, resulting in seven fatalities, including three children. The tragic event occurred during intense rainfall and strong winds on April 29, causing injuries and trapping individuals under debris, prompting immediate rescue efforts. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the scene, ordered a thorough investigation, and announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased.
On a different note, earlier rain-related incidents in April resulted in two additional fatalities in BTM Layout and Whitefield due to electrocution and wall collapse. In yet another unfortunate event, a woman lost her life while four others, including three children, sustained injuries when a house wall collapsed in Hanagallu, Somwarpet taluk, Madikeri, on July 26, 2025. The deceased, Sushma, hailed from Afzalpur in Kalburgi and was residing in a rented house with her husband, brother, and children.
