Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation for the Google AI Data Centre in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday (April 28). Google’s investment of $15 billion in the project marks one of the largest Foreign Direct Investments in India’s history. The data centre, spanning nearly 600 acres in Tharluwada, Adavivaram, and Rambilli regions, will have a total capacity of 1 Gigawatt.
The AI Data Centre is anticipated to be a significant milestone in India’s technology sector and a new chapter in Andhra Pradesh’s technology landscape. Visakhapatnam is set to become a key AI gateway for Asia with this advanced facility, positioning itself among the world’s leading technology hubs. The project is expected to provide large-scale data storage capacity and advanced AI cloud infrastructure, enhancing the city’s global technology presence.
Visakhapatnam’s coastal location makes it ideal for an international submarine cable landing station. The project, in collaboration with companies like AdaniConneX and Airtel Nxtra, aims to establish a multi-gigawatt digital hub with a total capacity of 6.5 Gigawatts across the state. The Google Data Centre is not only expected to create numerous job opportunities in various tech-related fields but also boost the state economy through generated revenue.
The initiative is likely to attract investments in related sectors such as power systems, cooling technologies, server manufacturing, and networking, fostering a robust AI ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh. Google AI cloud services are poised to position Visakhapatnam as a significant technology hub in Asia, attracting AI-driven companies to the city. The government is working towards ensuring a green energy supply for the data centres, aligning with the global focus on Visakhapatnam as a tech destination.
