The government has sanctioned projects worth Rs 21,394.88 crore for the enhancement of the fisheries and aquaculture sector. These projects, part of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), have a Central share of Rs 9,510.89 crore. Under the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF), 18 major projects amounting to Rs 345.89 crore have been approved for the expansion and modernization of fish processing plants.

Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh mentioned that the Technology Development for Specific Value-Added Marine Products (TDSVMP) Scheme is being implemented by the MPEDA. This scheme provides financial aid for the development of value-added infrastructure, including fish processing facilities, cold storage, and automated processing machinery.

MPEDA has extended financial assistance of Rs 118.10 crore to 89 seafood processing units for infrastructure development between 2021-22 and 2025-26. The Export Inspection Council (EIC) is responsible for quality control and inspection of marine products meant for export, ensuring compliance with the requirements of importing countries.

Efforts are being made to strengthen residue monitoring, traceability, and compliance with international standards through initiatives like the National Residue Control Plan (NRCP). The Department of Fisheries has introduced the National Framework on Traceability in Fisheries and Aquaculture, 2025, to establish a digital traceability system across the value chain, aiming to boost seafood exports.
