The government stated that there is no evidence of any critical information loss in the recent cyber security incident involving Tata Electronics. Electronics and Information Technology Secretary S. Krishnan mentioned that Tata Electronics is collaborating with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to manage the situation. Krishnan emphasized that, according to the government’s assessment, no critical data has been compromised.
Amid concerns about the cyber security incident’s potential impact on Apple’s supply chain, as Tata Electronics is a significant manufacturing partner for the tech giant in India, Krishnan highlighted that the situation is still being evaluated. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) is investigating the reported data breach in coordination with Tata Electronics to understand its implications.
Krishnan stressed the importance of organizations viewing cyber security as a holistic risk rather than just a technological concern. He underlined the need for constant vigilance against evolving digital threats. The government has been collaborating with the industry to enhance cyber resilience through CERT-In advisories, cyber hygiene programs, and incident response mechanisms, especially in light of the rising sophistication of AI-enabled cyber attacks and supply chain vulnerabilities as outlined in the latest Digital Threat Report.
Regarding Meta, Krishnan mentioned that the government will decide on further actions after reviewing the company’s formal response to a notice concerning Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material (CSEAM) allegedly promoted through paid Instagram advertisements. MeitY is awaiting Meta’s formal reply before determining the next steps based on the response provided.
