The J&K Police’s Crime Branch announced the arrest of a government employee in a fraud case involving forgery and illegal appointments. The arrest was made by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir in connection with a long-pending case. The accused, identified as Shahnawaz Ahmad Mir, a Senior Assistant in the Health Department, was apprehended in relation to FIR No. 19/2017 under Sections 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code.

Officials revealed that the case originated from a communication received from the Deputy Director of Health Services, Kashmir, raising concerns about fraudulent appointments. The accused, Shahnawaz Ahmad Mir, allegedly played a role in facilitating the fraudulent process. He has been described as a habitual offender with involvement in multiple similar cases, some of which are still under investigation or have already been charge-sheeted.

The case sheds light on alleged irregularities in appointment procedures and document verification within the department, triggering a deeper investigation by authorities. The ongoing probe aims to uncover the full scope of the fraud and identify any additional accomplices. The Crime Branch, the investigative arm of the J&K Police, is dedicated to probing special crimes that require specialized investigative teams.
