The government introduced the AI-enabled Rural Internal Audit Portal to enhance transparency and governance in rural development initiatives. Launched by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the platform, developed in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre, streamlines the internal audit process through digital means. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Rural Development, modernizes audit practices by integrating technology for improved governance.
The Rural Internal Audit Portal, conceptualized by the Office of the Chief Controller of Accounts, caters to both risk-based and compliance audits. It signifies a significant shift from manual and paper-based audits to a transparent, technology-driven system. The platform consolidates audit functions like planning, execution, reporting, compliance management, and analytics into a unified digital framework.
By addressing challenges of traditional audit methods, the portal eliminates paper-heavy processes and enhances transparency. It simplifies audit activities by centralizing records, automating reporting, and enabling real-time monitoring. The platform’s successful pilot in Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh, led to its gradual expansion, with full operational modules in place since October 2025.
Officials emphasize the portal’s role in digitizing audit processes, establishing a centralized audit repository, and automating report generation. It is designed to support risk-based audit planning, enhance compliance management, and enable efficient monitoring of audit progress. The platform marks a significant advancement in leveraging technology for effective governance in rural development programs.
