The government disclosed that out of the 4.14 crore houses designated to states/UTs, 3.86 crore have been approved, and 2.92 crore are completed as of December 9, 2025. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) is a key initiative aiming to provide 4.95 crore pucca houses with basic amenities to houseless and kutcha house residents by 2029.

Initially, the scheme targeted assisting in constructing 2.95 crore houses by March 2024. The Union Cabinet extended the scheme on August 9, 2024, to build an additional 2 crore rural houses from FY 2024-25 to FY 2028-29 to address the growing housing needs in rural areas.

Furthermore, the PM-JANMAN scheme was sanctioned to ensure basic facilities for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) families and habitations. Housing support under this scheme is included in PMAY-G. The ministry reported sanctioning 4,71,486 houses and completing 2,42,811 houses across states and UTs as of December 9, 2025.

The Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) was initiated in June 2011 to alleviate poverty by providing self-employment opportunities. The Lakhpati Didi initiative under this program aims to empower women economically, with a target of creating 3 crore Lakhpati Didis by promoting women-led businesses for sustainable rural development.

Over 2 crore Self-Help Group (SHG) women have become Lakhpati Didis in the country, as per the ministry. The Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana has significantly enhanced rural connectivity, completing over 16,000 km of roads and 900 bridges.
