The government highlighted a significant boost in the domestic space industry following key reforms, with private investments exceeding $618.5 million and 105 authorizations issued to private entities. Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh revealed that private investment reached $187 million in 2026, with 105 authorizations granted to Non-Government Entities as of July 14.

Private funding in the sector has surged nearly six-fold in recent years, escalating from $100.5 million in 2021-22 to $348.5 million in 2023-24, eventually reaching $618.5 million by March 31, 2026. Each application for private space activities undergoes thorough evaluation based on IN-SPACe’s norms, ensuring alignment with strategic, security, and national interests before approval.

IN-SPACe is actively developing Safety and Security Guidelines for space operations in India in collaboration with stakeholders to fortify the regulatory framework as private sector involvement expands. The government has established a comprehensive policy, regulatory, and financial ecosystem to propel the growth of India’s private space domain.

Seventeen space startups have been authorized by IN-SPACe to engage in space endeavors, underscoring the rise of a dynamic startup environment contributing significantly to India’s space aspirations. The reforms have revolutionized the private space landscape in India over the past six years, witnessing a surge from one active space startup in 2014 to over 400 today.

Indian private enterprises have showcased successful launch and orbital capabilities, deploying more than 30 satellites into orbit and executing nearly 45 payloads through platforms like the PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM). These achievements underscore the increasing technological prowess and commercial maturity of India’s private space sector.
