The government, led by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, plans to set up modern testing facilities in toy manufacturing clusters nationwide. This initiative, in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and other labs, aims to ensure that Indian toys meet high-quality standards for both local and global markets. Goyal urged industry players to identify the necessary testing equipment for this purpose.
Encouraging Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to expand their operations, Goyal emphasized the importance of aspiring for growth within the industry. He highlighted that export turnover does not affect an enterprise’s MSME status, allowing them to grow while benefiting from the MSME framework. This move is part of efforts to boost the toy industry through policy support and innovation.
Speaking at the 17th ‘Toy Biz International B2B Exhibition 2026’, Goyal commended the progress made by the Indian toy sector. He called for the establishment of skill development centers and partnerships with Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to enhance manufacturing practices. Goyal proposed a public-private partnership model to create Centers of Excellence for testing, product development, and design.
Goyal stressed the need for manufacturers to focus on brand-building and utilize technologies like Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD-CAM) for product enhancement. By integrating CAD-CAM with CNC machining, the industry can produce high-quality toys efficiently. The minister emphasized the significance of technological advancements to boost competitiveness and global market presence for Indian toy manufacturers.
