The government has scheduled an Open House event in New Delhi on April 27 to address concerns regarding steel imports amidst global tensions. The Ministry of Steel has invited companies and associations to raise issues related to this topic during the event. Specific time slots will be allocated via email for the Open House, which will run from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, with only one representative per organization allowed to ensure broad participation.
Interested parties with concerns regarding “SIMS/SARAL SIMS/QCO EXEMPTION” for steel imports are requested to submit their requests via email by April 24, 3:00 pm to secure confirmed time slots. In a separate development, the United States reduced its global steel imports in 2025 but notably increased imports from India. India’s steel exports to the US saw a significant rise, with 553,000 net tonnes imported in 2025, marking a 118.3% increase from the previous year. Despite a slight dip in December shipments, India’s performance in the US market remained strong.
Steel plays a vital role in various sectors such as infrastructure, automotive, energy, and construction. The surge in Indian steel exports to the US highlights the country’s expanding presence in the market, amidst ongoing trade dynamics and supply chain discussions. Additionally, the growth rate of the eight core industries in February reached 2.8%, with a cumulative growth rate of 2.6% for April to March 2025-26 compared to the previous year. March witnessed a 2.2% increase in steel production year-on-year, while the cement sector saw a 4% growth, supported by substantial government investments in major infrastructure projects.
