The Centre and Andhra Pradesh government jointly deposited Rs 2,670 crore into the bank accounts of 46.85 lakh farmers in the state. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu attended the fund release event for the PM-Kisan – Annadata Sukheebhava schemes in Krishna district. The farmers, along with the Chief Minister, virtually watched Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address from Guwahati.
Under the Annadata Sukheebhava scheme, eligible farmers in Andhra Pradesh receive Rs 20,000 annually. The PM-Kisan scheme contributes Rs 6,000 from the Central government, with an additional Rs 14,000 from the state government. Chief Minister Naidu emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing the agricultural sector through technology. He highlighted initiatives like the Pattiseema project for irrigation in the Krishna delta and the ongoing Polavaram project.
The government is promoting agricultural technologies such as seed sowing via drones and drip irrigation. Plans include establishing an Indian School of Agriculture akin to the Indian School of Business for advanced farming guidance. Moreover, a 500-acre Cocoa City is set to be developed in Eluru district. The state government has also facilitated timely payments for paddy procurement and subsidized electricity at Rs 1.50 per unit for aqua farmers.
