New Delhi, Aug 17 (IANS) The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has cleared nearly 31 applications involving investments of Rs 7,877 crore under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), as the government steps up efforts to strengthen India’s domestic electronics component manufacturing ecosystem.

MeitY Secretary S Krishnan said the latest approvals cover a broad range of components and products, including capital goods, camera and display modules, anode materials, enclosures, connectors, transducers, rare-earth permanent magnets, acetylene black, optical transceivers, speakers and microphones, relays, hermetic terminals, electrolyte additives and antennas.

The approved projects will also manufacture metallised films for capacitors, coils, filters, capacitors and metal shielding covers. The latest round includes an enhanced investment in copper-clad laminates that had received approval earlier.

The projects are spread across 10 states and are expected to generate production worth Rs 82,243 crore while creating nearly 10,000 jobs, Krishnan said.

With these approvals, the government has now cleared 106 applications covering around 30 product categories across 15 states under the ECMS. The projects represent cumulative investments of Rs 69,548 crore, exceeding the scheme’s original investment target of Rs 59,350 crore.

Expected production from the approved projects has also risen to Rs 5,34,101 crore, compared with the original target of Rs 4,56,500 crore. Krishnan said the government is yet to meet the employment target under the scheme but expects to achieve it shortly.

The approvals come amid a faster pace of processing by MeitY, with meetings to clear applications being held almost every week or every 10 days in response to strong industry interest in the scheme. Applications under categories that remain open will continue to be accepted until July 2027.

Several projects approved under the ECMS have already moved into construction or are progressing towards commercial production. These include lithium-ion cell manufacturing units at Rewari and Sona, Tata Electronics’ enclosure plant in Hosur, Kaynes’ PCB facility near Chennai and Dixon Technologies’ display and camera module facility in Noida.

Other projects include Motherson’s enclosure plant in Kanchipuram, Wipro’s laminate plant and Yujan Technologies’ enclosure facility in Kanchipuram.
