The Greater Noida Police have expanded their investigation into the death of Deepika Nagar by arresting her mother-in-law, Poonam, making it a total of four arrests. Poonam is the second person arrested on Wednesday, following the earlier arrest of Vinod, who is Deepika’s husband Ritik’s uncle. Allegedly, all four individuals played a role in mentally harassing Deepika, pressuring her for more money and a car.
With these recent arrests, the total number of detained individuals has reached four, including Deepika’s husband, Ritik, and his father, Manoj, who were already in police custody. Deepika Nagar, a 24-year-old, tragically ended her life by jumping from her marital home’s terrace due to continuous mental and emotional abuse related to dowry demands.
The Ecotech-3 Police Station team, with the help of local intelligence and surveillance units, apprehended Poonam from Jalpura. Following Deepika’s suicide on May 17, her family accused her in-laws of dowry harassment and mistreatment, leading to the arrests of Manoj and Ritik on May 18. The police are conducting a thorough investigation, collecting evidence and considering all relevant factors.
Authorities have assured that stringent legal measures will be taken against the guilty parties. The incident has caused outrage in the community, with Deepika’s family demanding severe punishment for the accused.
