Signs of dissatisfaction are surfacing within the AIADMK’s affiliated organisational wings as the party conducts district-level review meetings following the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Concerns have been raised by functionaries from various wings regarding inadequate representation within the party and limited opportunities to participate in elections.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami is leading consultative meetings to analyze the party’s electoral performance and reasons for the setback. Leaders and office-bearers from different districts are providing feedback on the party’s campaign, organizational functioning, and future strategy.
Office-bearers from the Women’s Wing, MGR Youth Wing, Youth Wing, Traders’ Wing, and other units have highlighted the issue of insufficient representation in both party organization and electoral politics. They argue that despite years of grassroots work, they have not received adequate recognition or opportunities to contest elections.
During interactions with Women’s Wing office-bearers, participants urged for increased representation of women in key organizational roles and more opportunities for women candidates in upcoming elections. Palaniswami has continued the review process with party functionaries from Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts.
Criticism was directed at the AIADMK’s IT Wing during the discussions, with some office-bearers alleging its failure to effectively counter the ruling party’s campaign. Palaniswami emphasized the need for stronger coordination and organizational discipline for future electoral battles.
The AIADMK’s MGR Youth Wing, led by former MP S.R. Vijayakumar, expressed disappointment over the perceived lack of importance given to Youth Wing functionaries despite their contributions. They called for more opportunities to contest elections and take up leadership roles. The discontent reflects a broader demand for improved coordination between the party leadership and its wings, along with better recognition of grassroots workers.
The MGR Youth Wing meeting concluded by thanking Palaniswami for leading the AIADMK-led NDA to victory in 52 Assembly constituencies. A resolution also criticized the ruling TVK government, likening its functioning to that of the previous DMK administration.
