Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Gujarat on Saturday, State Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia highlighted the inauguration of the CG Power Semiconductor Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility at Sanand as a significant step in establishing Gujarat as a leading semiconductor manufacturing hub.
The facility, developed with an investment exceeding Rs 7,500 crore under the ‘India Semiconductor Mission’, is one of the first four semiconductor projects approved by the Centre. It is set to begin commercial production post its inauguration by the Prime Minister.
Minister Modhwadia emphasized the recent progress in India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, attributing it to the initiatives led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He mentioned that Gujarat, under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, is at the forefront of this sector, with six out of the 12 approved semiconductor projects in the country to be established in the state.
According to the Minister, the approved semiconductor projects in Gujarat represent a total investment of about Rs 1.70 lakh crore. The CG Semi OSAT facility at Sanand will offer end-to-end semiconductor assembly and testing services, catering to various sectors like automotive, industrial, telecommunications, 5G, and Internet of Things.
The project aligns with the mission to bolster domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities and enhance India’s position in the global electronics supply chain. Gujarat has become a focal point for such investments, with multiple projects underway in Sanand, Dholera, and Surat, solidifying its position in the semiconductor industry.
