Gujarat Assembly Deputy Speaker Jethabhai Ahir has resigned from his position due to work commitments and various responsibilities, as confirmed by Cabinet Minister Jitubhai Vaghani. Ahir submitted his resignation to Gujarat Assembly Speaker Shankarbhai Chaudhary at the Speaker’s residence in Gandhinagar. The resignation was presented in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, state BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma, and organisation minister Ratnakarji.
Described as a dedicated cooperative leader, Ahir is actively involved with multiple cooperative institutions, including the Panchmahal Dairy and NAFED. Due to the increasing workload from these roles, Ahir had previously expressed his challenges to the party leadership on several occasions. In response to his concerns, the party has accepted his decision to step down from the constitutional post.
Vaghani mentioned that Ahir’s resignation was voluntary and conducted in a friendly atmosphere. Despite resigning as Deputy Speaker, Ahir will continue to fulfill his duties as a legislator. The minister emphasized that Ahir’s knowledge and guidance will remain valuable to the party, public life, and the cooperative sector as needed.
In the 2017 Assembly elections, Ahir won from the Sehra constituency with a significant margin of 1,00,383 votes. Similarly, in the 2012 Gujarat polls, he secured victory with a majority of 28,725 votes. Ahir completed his graduation from Gujarat University in 2005.
