The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) confiscated 2.08 lakh Tramadol tablets valued at Rs 8.32 crore and apprehended an alleged interstate drug trafficker from Rajasthan. The accused, Paresh Jain, was reported to have distributed over 62.54 lakh tablets across various states within a month. Deputy Superintendent of Police S.L. Chaudhary received intelligence on Jain’s involvement in the illegal trade of Tramadol.
The ATS investigation, based on shared intelligence with senior officers, unveiled Jain’s dispatch of a Tramadol consignment from Ankleshwar to Pali, Rajasthan. The consignment was concealed under the name of New Mahavir Medical using false tax invoices. Gujarat ATS, along with other law enforcement agencies, intercepted the bus carrying the tablets near Namaste Circle in Shahibaug. The seizure included 2.08 lakh Tramadol tablets estimated at Rs 8.32 crore in the international market.
Jain fled to Rajasthan after the interception, but a second ATS team located and arrested him in Gogunda, Udaipur. The accused, who obtained a medical stockist license in May, allegedly procured and distributed 62.54 lakh Tramadol tablets in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Despite holding a legitimate license, Jain was primarily involved in trading Tramadol. ATS DIG Sunil Joshi highlighted the collaborative efforts of law enforcement in combating drug trafficking.
