The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) discovered an illicit mephedrone production facility in Ambedkar Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh, following a probe that started with a seizure in Ahmedabad. The investigation began on March 1 when 4.6 grams of an illegal substance were confiscated from Shafat Ahmed in Ahmedabad. Subsequently, Sohail and Farhan, both residents of Ahmedabad, were arrested for supplying the substance to Shafat.
During the inquiry, it was revealed that Sohail had obtained approximately 300 grams of mephedrone from two individuals named Pankaj and Kapil. This information led the ATS to suspect that the two were involved in manufacturing mephedrone in Ambedkarnagar. A raid was conducted in Ramnagar Karri village, Uttar Pradesh, where two suspects, Kapildev Sharma and Ramshankar, were apprehended.
The raid resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of contraband and precursor materials, including ready mephedrone, liquid mephedrone, a controlled substance known as 2-bromo-4-methylpropiophenone, and various raw materials and chemicals. Sunil Joshi, Deputy Inspector General of ATS, emphasized the zero-tolerance policy of the Indian and Gujarat governments towards narcotics. All individuals involved have been detained, and legal procedures are in progress.
