Gujarat has witnessed a remarkable milestone with more than 5.96 lakh women achieving the status of ‘Lakhpati Didi’, showcasing significant progress in rural women’s income generation and economic involvement through government livelihood programs.
This achievement coincides with the 12-year tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which various initiatives promoting women’s financial inclusion and entrepreneurship have been launched. Programs like Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, PM Mudra Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao have been emphasized to empower women.
Under the Lakhpati Didi initiative by the Gujarat Livelihood Promotion Company, 5.96 lakh women have surpassed the annual household income threshold of Rs one lakh, out of the identified 10 lakh potential beneficiaries. This initiative, part of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission, aims to enhance rural women’s livelihoods through self-help groups by offering training, credit access, financial aid, and market connections.
To facilitate the program’s execution, the state has designated 124 master trainers at district and taluka levels. These trainers, trained by national-level resource persons, have in turn educated over 10,000 Community Resource Persons, including Krishi Sakhis, Pashu Sakhis, and Bank Sakhis.
