Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed the daily monitoring of petrol and diesel stocks through a control room mechanism to ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies across the state. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting in Gandhinagar, where Patel reviewed the fuel availability and supply arrangements. Government spokesperson Jitu Vaghani mentioned that the Chief Minister emphasized the need for close monitoring of fuel stocks and maintaining adequate supply systems to prevent inconvenience to citizens.
The recent directive comes in light of concerns over fuel availability in various parts of the country due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia and recent rumors of shortages. Last month, Gujarat witnessed long queues at petrol pumps triggered by social media messages, leading to panic buying, although authorities assured that fuel stocks were sufficient. The Union government has also reiterated the availability of ample stocks of petrol, diesel, and LPG nationwide.
To ensure effective monitoring of petroleum product supplies and stock positions, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has set up a 24×7 control room. State governments are urged to actively monitor supply conditions and prevent hoarding or black marketing of essential commodities, including petroleum products. The recent directive by the Gujarat government aims to enhance local monitoring mechanisms and prevent disruptions during periods of heightened demand or public concern.
Chief Minister Patel underscored the importance of proactive fuel supply management, emphasizing the need for officials to maintain regular oversight through the control room system. The cabinet meeting also discussed broader administrative issues and public welfare initiatives. While no restrictions on fuel sales were announced, officials reiterated that supply chains are operational, ensuring that citizens can easily access petrol or diesel under normal circumstances.
