The Gujarat unit of Congress criticized the Central and state governments for neglecting farmers and being ill-prepared for the monsoon. They called for the enforcement of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations to ensure minimum support prices for farmers. General Secretary Mukul Wasnik highlighted the government’s failure to fulfill promises made to farmers, especially regarding Minimum Support Prices (MSP).
Congress demanded fair prices for agricultural produce and immediate actions to address the challenges faced by farmers in Gujarat. They emphasized the need for the government to implement the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations with a legal guarantee. Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Chavda also condemned the BJP government for its alleged lack of development and preparedness following heavy monsoon rains in the state.
Chavda pointed out the adverse impact of heavy rainfall in Surat, leading to disruptions in daily life and financial losses for traders. The Congress party urged for ongoing relief and rescue efforts in affected areas, along with compensation for the families of those who lost their lives. They also called for a thorough investigation into pre-monsoon works and accountability for any negligence or irregularities.
