Gujarat authorities destroyed narcotics valued at Rs 2,153 crore seized in 867 cases across the state. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi highlighted the police’s efforts in disrupting international drug smuggling networks. The state aims to enhance prosecution and convictions in narcotics cases to combat drug trafficking effectively.
The destruction of the seized narcotics took place at Enviro Infrastructure Limited’s facility in Bharuch district. Sanghavi, along with the Drug Disposal Committee members, oversaw the scientific disposal process. This initiative aligns with the state government’s anti-drug campaign and the national “Drug-Free India” drive.
Sanghavi virtually launched a parallel narcotics destruction program in Kutch district. The destroyed stock included 13,249.127 kg of narcotic substances and 5,71,028 bottles seized by various investigative units. These seizures, totaling Rs 2,153 crore in value, were made in 867 cases across Gujarat.
The seized contraband was a result of collaborative efforts by multiple police units in different districts. The destruction covered seizures made by various police departments and investigative bodies across the state. The state government emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics to combat drug-related crimes effectively.
At Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL) in Dahej, Sanghavi unveiled the ‘NDPS Handbook’ to guide investigating officers. The handbook aims to strengthen the enforcement of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Additionally, an awareness video on the “Drug-Free Gujarat” campaign was screened to educate the public on the dangers of drug abuse.
