Gujarat’s Director General of Police, K. L. N. Rao, took a Metro train journey from Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar to assess security measures and encourage public transport use. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for fuel conservation and sustainable mobility. Dr. Rao inspected station entry and exit points, CCTV systems, metal detectors, and security personnel deployment along the Metro route.
He engaged with passengers to gather feedback on operational efficiency and safety. Emphasizing the importance of fuel conservation, Rao urged citizens to opt for Metro and public transport services over private vehicles. He noted a significant increase in annual passengers from 2.5 crore to nearly 5 crore since the Ahmedabad Metro’s inception, indicating a shift towards urban mass transit in the region.
The DGP’s journey aimed to raise public awareness on fuel conservation and evaluate security arrangements within the Metro system. This move echoes the national drive to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption and promote public transport and energy-efficient practices. Rao highlighted the significance of women’s safety in public transport, urging prompt reporting of any security concerns to the police, especially during late-night travel.
The inspection coincides with a surge in Metro ridership in major Indian cities, emphasizing sustainability, fuel efficiency, and public transport adoption in urban mobility planning.
