Glasgow, July 31 (IANS) Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi joined local Scottish residents and members of the Indian community for a community yoga session in Glasgow on Friday, highlighting India’s cultural outreach on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Games.
The early morning session brought together participants from both the local community and the Indian diaspora, with Sanghavi taking part in yoga asanas and pranayama without any official protocol.
Addressing those present, the Deputy Chief Minister described yoga as “India’s unique and invaluable gift to the world”, saying it promotes harmony between physical well-being and mental peace.
He said, “Yoga is India’s unique and invaluable gift to the world, harmonising physical well-being and mental peace.”
Sanghavi also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with helping bring yoga to a global audience. “The Prime Minister has taken yoga to the global stage,” he said.
According to the state government, the participation of Scottish residents alongside members of the Indian community reflected the cultural links and spirit of friendship between India and Scotland.
During his visit to Glasgow, Sanghavi also participated in the Scotland-India Business Forum, where discussions focused on strengthening trade relations, industrial partnerships and future investment opportunities between Scotland and India.
He highlighted Gujarat’s business-friendly ecosystem and invited industry leaders to explore investment opportunities in the state.
He also promoted the Ahmedabad Experience Centre in Glasgow, which has been set up to introduce visitors to the host city of the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
Inviting people in and around Glasgow to visit the centre, Sanghavi said it offers a glimpse of Ahmedabad’s culture, heritage, cuisine and identity ahead of the Games, adding that Gujarat looks forward to welcoming the world to Ahmedabad in 2030.
On the sporting front, the Deputy Chief Minister met Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra before his qualification round at the Commonwealth Games.
After Chopra secured his place in the final, Sanghavi congratulated him on qualifying and wished him success in the medal event, expressing hope that he would bring home the gold.
