A farmer in Gujarat’s Dang district, Sonubhai Dokia from Jharan village, has been granted a permanent house through government initiatives supporting rural housing. He obtained Rs 1,20,000 from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) by applying through the local panchayat and submitting necessary documents. Additionally, he received Rs 21,610 under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to aid in constructing the house.
Using the financial aid along with his earnings from labor, Dokia successfully completed the construction within the specified timeframe. Expressing gratitude, he credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the beneficial scheme, stating that without it, he wouldn’t have been able to afford a house. He emphasized the improved living conditions for his family after moving into the new home.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, initiated in 2015, is a key government program aimed at providing housing for all by facilitating the construction of permanent homes with essential amenities for economically weaker sections in rural and urban areas. The rural segment of the scheme focuses on assisting households that lack proper housing, enabling them to build solid structures through direct financial aid.
This scheme is actively being implemented in rural regions of Gujarat, with eligible recipients receiving financial backing to construct lasting homes. The process involves identifying qualified beneficiaries through surveys and transferring funds directly to their bank accounts to support the construction process. Noteworthy progress has been made in Gujarat’s housing program, with over 10.27 lakh houses sanctioned under PMAY, out of which approximately 9.63 lakh have already been completed.
