The Gujarat government has increased its efforts to control the Chandipura virus outbreak after confirming seven positive cases out of 19 samples tested in the state. Three child deaths related to the infection have been reported this year.
Health Minister Praful Pansheriya chaired a high-level meeting at the Secretariat in Gandhinagar to review the state’s response. Officials emphasized the need to enhance disease surveillance, ensure prompt treatment, and intensify preventive measures in affected areas.
Pansheriya highlighted the rapid progress of laboratory testing for the accurate diagnosis of the Chandipura virus. Out of 27 suspected cases, seven tested positive, 12 negative, and results for the remaining eight samples are awaited.
The minister expressed condolences for the children who succumbed to the virus and urged the health department to prevent further fatalities. He emphasized the issuance of guidelines to pediatric specialists and instructed immediate referral of suspected cases to well-equipped hospitals.
Preventive measures have been completed at all 61 locations where Chandipura virus cases were reported in Gujarat in 2024. The government has conducted fogging, sandfly-control spraying, and sanitation drives in newly affected areas to contain the spread.
Authorities have ensured an ample supply of medicines and essential medical resources at health facilities statewide. Continuous monitoring and intensified activities are being carried out under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to combat the outbreak effectively.
Parents are advised to seek medical attention promptly if their children exhibit symptoms like fever, vomiting, or unconsciousness. The Health Department is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts to control the Chandipura virus outbreak.
