The Gujarat government is ramping up its monsoon readiness as the India Meteorological Department predicts heavy rainfall in various parts of the state. Measures include continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas, deployment of disaster response teams, and planning for critical infrastructure. A recent meeting chaired by Relief Commissioner Gaurang Makwana at the State Emergency Operation Centre in Gandhinagar assessed departmental preparedness to enhance citizen safety during the monsoon season. Officials have been urged to ensure close coordination and prompt reporting to the State Control Room in case of emergencies.

The State Control Room is actively monitoring regions likely to experience heavy rainfall, especially in South Gujarat, using satellite data and IMD forecasts. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are already stationed in vulnerable areas with necessary equipment for swift rescue operations during emergencies. The IMD anticipates light to moderate rainfall across Gujarat in the next week, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in specific areas, particularly in South Gujarat.

Warnings have been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall in various districts on specific dates. The Water Resources and Irrigation Department is vigilantly monitoring water levels in major dams, while the Roads and Buildings Department is preparing alternative routes to ensure traffic flow in case of road closures. The Energy Department has standby teams ready to restore power promptly if disruptions occur due to heavy rainfall. Various departments, including NDRF, SDRF, Coast Guard, Navy, Health, Forest, Agriculture, and Revenue, are actively involved in the preparedness efforts.
