Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, along with Lady Governor Darshana Devi, took a train journey from Ahmedabad to New Delhi as part of cost-cutting measures following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for economic self-defense. Senior railway officials welcomed them at Sabarmati Railway Station before their departure. The Governor, aiming to conserve fuel, has opted for train travel over helicopters and air transport for official duties within Gujarat until the fuel situation stabilizes.
The Governor’s decision aligns with the Prime Minister’s plea to reduce fuel consumption and embrace financially prudent practices amidst global uncertainties. He emphasized the importance of supporting fuel conservation and minimizing unnecessary expenses. Governor Devvrat instructed that his official convoy maintain the minimum required vehicles despite his high-level security, emphasizing the significance of every saved drop of fuel for India’s self-reliance.
As part of a broader initiative, the Governor directed state universities to observe a “combustion engine-free” day weekly, promoting the use of bicycles, electric vehicles, and public transport over petrol and diesel cars. This move extends to government departments, urging them to limit official vehicle use and implement fuel-saving measures in daily administrative operations. The Governor’s recent train journey is part of a series of public transport endeavors, including a bus ride earlier this month, showcasing a commitment to national interest and conservation efforts.
