Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya revealed that raids on pharmaceutical companies in Ahmedabad led to the seizure or prohibition of suspected drugs valued at more than Rs 1.21 crore. The state’s Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) conducted these actions as part of a broader crackdown on spurious, substandard, and addictive medicines.
The enforcement drive involved inspections and raids at various locations in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Savli, and Bharuch. Minister Pansheriya emphasized a ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards the illegal sale of harmful drugs, ensuring the health and safety of citizens. He directed strict actions against those involved in the adulteration and illegal distribution of medicines.
During the raids, significant quantities of narcotic and habit-forming medicines were discovered, along with irregularities in purchase and sales records. Notably, a raid on Pavan Formulation in Ahmedabad uncovered codeine-based syrup stockpiles, while Yusuf Medicines in Gomtipur was found selling a spurious Ayurvedic product. The crackdown also led to the suspension of licenses and legal actions against entities involved in illegal activities.
