Gujarat has launched modern technical courses in its Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to align with industry needs and future job opportunities. The state’s Labour and Employment Department has introduced 11 new programs in various types of ITIs, creating over 3,000 additional training seats. These courses cover areas like artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, drone technology, and renewable energy and are aimed at preparing skilled workers for expanding sectors.
The new courses are being offered in 73 ITIs, including government, grant-in-aid, and self-financed institutions. Some of the programs include Artificial Intelligence Programming Assistant, Solar Technician (Electrical), Mechanic Electric Vehicle, and IoT Technician (Smart Agriculture). State officials emphasized that these courses are designed to cater to the fast-growing fields of renewable energy, electric mobility, automation, and digital technology.
Ministers highlighted the importance of keeping vocational training in line with changing industrial demands to create employment opportunities for the youth. Gujarat, known for its significant renewable energy capacity, is also focusing on the electric vehicle sector. The state has seen a notable increase in electric vehicle registrations, leading to the introduction of new courses to meet the rising demand for trained technicians in this sector.
The initiative in Gujarat is part of broader skill development efforts to prepare a skilled workforce for emerging industries and enhance employment prospects for the youth. This move aligns with the national ‘Skill India Mission’ aimed at boosting employability through vocational training and skill development programs.
