Lakhs of children in Gujarat schools kick-started the ‘Kanya Kelavani Mahotsav and Shala Praveshotsav 2026’ to enhance enrollment and literacy. The state’s Chief Minister inaugurated the 24th edition of the campaign at B.N. High School in Vadnagar, where PM Modi studied. The initiative spans 9,165 villages and 12,729 schools over three days, witnessing broad participation from officials and leaders.
Fresh enrollments on the first day included over 68,000 children in Anganwadis, 1.47 lakh in Balvatika, 36,000 in Class 1, 2.16 lakh in Class 9, and 1.15 lakh in Class 11. The state aims for universal enrollment, with a focus on attendance, reducing dropouts, and promoting girls’ education, especially in rural areas. Efforts include providing transport to 24,267 schools and awarding ‘Vidyalakshmi Bonds’ to 920 meritorious girls.
Public support for the campaign was substantial, with contributions totaling Rs 9.06 crore, including cash and educational materials. A ‘Back to School Survey’ identified 3,485 children in Gujarat not yet enrolled, prompting a special drive for their inclusion. The program continues with school visits, enrollment activities, and community outreach to enhance education access.
