Gujarat aims to hire approximately 50,000 individuals for its Police Department through direct recruitment by 2033, as announced by Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi in Gandhinagar. The recruitment initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the state’s policing capabilities and modernize the force. Sanghavi highlighted the significant recruitment achievements in the past decade, with over 54,000 posts filled and an additional 13,500 posts currently in the recruitment process.
The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the importance of women’s participation in the police force, noting that Gujarat Police has recruited 15,653 women personnel in the last five years, a move towards women’s empowerment. Sanghavi addressed the newly appointed officers, underscoring that the police’s role extends beyond law enforcement to responding promptly to public safety challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters. He urged recruits to uphold accountability and ensure that law violators face consequences.
In embracing technology for investigations, Sanghavi acknowledged the value of technological tools while emphasizing the continued essential role of human intelligence in solving crimes. Additionally, he announced the opening of grounds at all district police headquarters in Gujarat for candidates preparing for physical tests of competitive recruitment exams, aiming to support aspirants from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Sanghavi also commended the Gujarat Police for its thorough and scientific investigation in a recent terrorism-related case, highlighting the judiciary’s stance against terrorism.
