A recent operation by Gujarat Police, named ‘Operation Delta Hunt’, has resulted in the detention of 362 Bangladeshi nationals suspected of residing illegally in India. The operation, which involved telecom analysis, technical surveillance, human intelligence, and a network of checkpoints, was meticulously planned over 72 hours. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi revealed that more than 6,200 individuals were screened before raids commenced in various locations.
Director General of Police (DGP) K. L. N. Rao highlighted the use of telecom analysis and local intelligence networks to identify suspected individuals. A database of over 6,200 suspected Bangladeshis was compiled through this process, leading to ground-level enforcement actions. The operation, strategically designed to prevent suspects from escaping, included the establishment of checkpoints at key transportation hubs and district borders across the state.
The proactive strategy proved successful, with 18 individuals apprehended while attempting to flee during the raids. The operation, which extended beyond major cities to cover the entire state, targeted districts based on intelligence inputs. The Gujarat Police emphasized the creation of a specialized intelligence mechanism to combat illegal immigration and associated networks.
Deputy Chief Minister Sanghavi stressed that the ongoing operation is just the beginning, with plans for continued enforcement activities throughout Gujarat. The police aim to conduct verification drives and intelligence-led investigations to identify more illegal residents and dismantle support networks in the future.
