Gujarat Police have managed 382,728 emergency cases through the ‘112’ service in the past four months, dealing with an average of more than 12,000 calls daily. The service achieved an average response time of 11 minutes and 56 seconds in January 2026. State Police Director General of Police (DGP) K.L.N. Rao recently visited the advanced ‘112’ Emergency Response Centre to assess operations and enhance efficiency.
Launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the ‘112’ service serves as a central point for police, fire brigade, medical aid, disaster management, child helpline, and women’s helpline. During his visit, DGP Rao observed the handling of emergency calls and suggested leveraging data analytics to reduce response times to under 10 minutes. He emphasized the importance of seamless coordination between field personnel and the control room for the service’s success.
DGP Rao highlighted the need for regular reviews of technology, human resources, and overall performance to ensure optimal service delivery. The ‘112’ service in Gujarat aims to become a national model for providing prompt assistance to individuals in need. Additional DGP Rajkumar Pandian and other senior officers were also present during the visit, discussing operational enhancements and technological integration.
