Gujarat Police has excelled in recovering stolen mobile phones, surpassing the national average and securing the third position among large states in the country. Over the past year, they retrieved 53,564 stolen handsets, achieving a recovery rate of 46.71%, significantly higher than the national average of 32.6%. Across India, a total of 50,48,516 mobile phones have been blocked, with 1,83,985 being blocked in Gujarat alone.
The success of Gujarat Police in mobile phone recovery has been attributed to the collaborative efforts of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Gujarat Police. The effective utilization of the Central government’s ‘Sanchar Saathi’ portal and the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) module has enabled them to trace and recover devices more efficiently. These tools have positioned Gujarat as the third-best state in terms of recovery percentage among large states.
Officials have highlighted the dedication of their teams and the positive outcomes of systematic monitoring through CEIR. They also acknowledged the crucial role played by field officers in achieving these commendable results. Notably, Ahmedabad City, Dang, and Bhavnagar districts emerged as top performers in CEIR rankings for the financial year 2025-26.
