The Gujarat Police’s State Monitoring Cell confiscated 4.306 kg of suspected ambergris, known as whale vomit, valued at over Rs 4.30 crore in Bhavnagar district. Four individuals were arrested for allegedly possessing and planning to sell the substance. The seizure occurred in an open coastal area near Blue Sky Society in Budhel village.
The raid was conducted based on directives from Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) G.S. Malik to combat illegal activities in the state. Police Inspector R.K. Karmata led the operation, resulting in the apprehension of Imran Parmar, Sajidkhan Pathan, Faizan Madhra, and Sabbir Saiyed, all linked to the illegal possession of ambergris.
The accused were found with solid pieces of suspected ambergris in various sizes and colors, ranging from white to golden brown. The material was confirmed as ambergris by officials from the Forest Department and the Forensic Science Laboratory. The seized consignment, valued at Rs 4,30,60,000, was confiscated under legal provisions for further investigation.
The four detainees were held under specific legal sections and transferred to Vartej Police Station for additional legal procedures under the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972. The individuals reportedly received the ambergris from two absconding suspects for safekeeping and potential sale, highlighting the illegal trade in protected wildlife products.
