Gujarat has allocated more than 2.58 lakh homes to beneficiaries through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) in the past three financial years. This includes the construction of 93,000 houses in the current year alone. The scheme aims to offer proper, durable housing to rural families who previously lacked adequate shelter, thereby enhancing their living standards and overall well-being.
The PMAY-G program is a joint effort between the Central and State governments, with funding divided 60% and 40% respectively. Each house receives Rs 1.20 lakh in phased financial aid, along with an additional Rs 50,000 during the roof-casting phase, directly deposited into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts. Additionally, around 3,000 landless families have been supported with up to Rs 1 lakh for purchasing plots, ensuring their access to permanent housing.
Under the leadership of Rural Development Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya and State Minister Sanjaysinh Mahida, the Gujarat government remains committed to helping rural and landless individuals achieve their dream of owning a solid house. Officials emphasize that these houses represent more than just structures; they symbolize dignity, security, and prosperity in rural areas.
In a recent event in Narmada, homes worth Rs 1,008.19 crore were allocated to 61,125 beneficiaries as part of the PMAY-G initiative. This event, graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, sets a new standard for rural development and housing improvement in the State. The PMAY-G scheme continues to offer hope to homeless families in rural Gujarat, aligning with the State’s goal of a developed India by 2047 by facilitating the transition from temporary shelters to permanent homes.
