Gujarat has received a total of 1,470,125 applications during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. This revision was conducted to ensure accuracy and inclusiveness of the voter list as directed by the Election Commission of India. The campaign began on October 27 and concluded with the publication of the draft electoral roll on December 19.
Citizens were initially given until January 18 to submit claims and objections, a deadline later extended to January 30 by the Election Commission. All applications received will be examined and resolved by February 10. Among the applications, 7,25,920 were for inclusion of new voters, 1,83,235 for deletion of names, and 5,60,970 for correction of details or transposition.
The highest number of applications came from Ahmedabad district with 2,16,084 submissions, followed by Surat with 1,31,153 and Anand with 78,790. District-wise data revealed varied patterns, with some districts reporting higher numbers of deletions while urban areas saw more applications for corrections and updates in voter details. Electoral officials are scrutinizing all applications to ensure compliance with procedures set by the Election Commission.
Authorities emphasized the objective that every eligible voter should be included and no ineligible voter should be on the electoral rolls. Those who missed the SIR process can still participate in the continuous revision mechanism for inclusion, deletion, migration, or correction of details in the voter list.
